The state prosecuted a man named Ahmed Nafiu in connection with this case.
Although the state brought two charges of threatening imminent harm against him, he denied both charges in court.
However, based on the presented evidence and circumstantial proofs, both charges were proven to the court beyond a reasonable doubt.
The first case involves an incident on the night of June 21 of last year at around 20:30, at the ADh. Omadhoo Health Center.
After consulting the doctor, Dr. Su Thinzar Aung, Nafiu requested a pain injection.
When the doctor prescribed medication instead of an injection, he became dissatisfied and threatened to kill the doctor.
Upon proving this charge, his prison sentence of 22 days and 12 hours was commuted to a fine of MVR 4,500.
He was also ordered to pay this amount to MRA (Maldives Inland Revenue Authority) within 4 months, starting from September 15, 2024.
The second case involves an incident on the night of June 23, 2024, at around 21:18.
While Nafiu was shouting and causing a disturbance inside the Omadhoo Health Center, police officers advised him to stop his behavior.
In response, he threatened the police officers, stating he would kill them and set fire to the island's police post to cause damage.
Having been found guilty of this offense, his prison sentence of 1 year, 6 months, and 21 days was commuted to a fine of MVR 112,200.
The court ordered him to settle this payment to MIRA within one year.
The total fines he is required to pay for both cases amount to MVR 116,700.
The presiding magistrate who oversaw both cases and delivered the verdicts was Magistrate Aminath Niyasha of the ADh. Mahibadhoo Magistrate Court.
