The Maldives has received international recognition for its efforts to strengthen primary healthcare services, with an award presented to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for its work in revitalising primary healthcare across the country.
The award was presented by the Asia-Pacific Action Alliance on Human Resources for Health (AAAH) at its 14th conference in Bali, Indonesia.
It recognises the ministry’s progress in primary healthcare and public health, particularly the work of its Primary Health Care Revitalisation Team in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) country office in the Maldives.
According to the ministry, the recognition marks an important milestone in its efforts to strengthen primary healthcare services nationwide and advance universal health coverage.
The Maldives was among two recipients in the Primary Health Care Team category.
The biennial conference selected four award recipients from 174 nominations across three categories: Primary Health Care Team, Health Profession Education and Health Worker Well-Being.
