The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has forecast widespread rain, occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms across the country from November 7 to 11 as the southwest monsoon becomes active over the Maldives.
In an announcement made today, the service said some islands could experience periods of torrential rain, bringing the possibility of localised flooding during the five-day period.
MET urged the public to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and take necessary precautions as conditions develop.
The unsettled outlook falls within the Maldives’ southwest monsoon season, which the Meteorological Service identifies as the wet season, generally extending from mid-May through November.
The season is associated with prolonged rain and showers.
