Authorities have seized more than three kilograms of drugs in two separate attempts to smuggle narcotics into the Maldives through courier and postal services.

According to the Maldives Customs Service, a total of 1,030 grams of synthetic cathinones were seized from a courier package on October 31.

Customs officials discovered the drugs during an inspection of the shipment after suspecting that narcotics had been concealed inside the package.

A thorough search subsequently led to the seizure.

In a separate incident on October 29, authorities intercepted another shipment containing 2,123 grams of synthetic cathinones that had been attempted to be smuggled into the country through the postal service.

The two seizures bring the total quantity of synthetic cathinones confiscated in the incidents to 3,153 grams.
