Government is trying to drive the people into poverty: MP Azim

MDP MP for the Central Henveiru constituency, Ali Azim has stated that the government is trying to drive the people into poverty by increasing the GST and T-GST.

The entire parliamentary panel approved the government's proposal to increase GST and TGST to boost the state's revenue. Even if the committee decides to do so, the bill will be re-introduced in parliament and a decision will be taken on the bill.

Responding to the issue, Azim in a series of tweets stated that he voted in parliament today not to increase GST and TGST.

"The government did this to increase wasteful expenditure ahead of the elections. to humiliate the people," .

Azam, who was also the party's parliamentary group leader in the past Said 

Ihavandhoo MP Mohamed Shifa5u submitted the bill on behalf of the government. The bill proposes an increase in GST to 8 per cent and T-GST to 16 per cent. The Parliament has decided to pass the bill as it is. 

The second amendment proposed by Azim seeks to increase the TGST levied on guesthouses, but the amendment received only 19 votes. Forty-four voted not to pass the amendment.

Azim's proposal to make April 2023 the date for implementation of the tax law has also not been passed.
