Hulhudhoo MP and Chair of the Parliament's State Owned Enterprise (SOE) Committee Ilyas Labeeb has said that in his view President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih should not be given a second term.

Ilyas made the remarks while speaking on the government's proposal to raise taxes in parliament on Monday.

Ilyas criticised the government for not receiving MVR in revenue at the time of the decision to raise taxes.

He pointed out that the government was not able to recover the rent due from the flats as well as the misappropriated funds.

He also expressed his grievances with the government over the wasteful expenditure on Aasandha and NSPA, the ventilator scam and the failure to open the Shangri-La Resort in Addu City. He also asked whether it was appropriate to increase taxes without resolving his concerns.

Ilyas noted that the impact of the additional taxes on tourism, people and businesses should also be considered and presented to parliament.

That's why I'm not going to give a second term to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih

Said Ilyas

Ilyas belongs to speaker Mohamed Nasheed's faction.
