Change in Maldives' policy on Chagos case linked to India: Muizzu
Former Justice Minister Mohamed Muizzu Adnan has said that the change in the government's stand on the Chagos issue is linked to India.
Muizzu claimed in a Facebook post on Monday that a significant portion of the nation's economic zone would be irreparably destroyed by the government's plan to cut the boundary.
"The people of the maldives have not given the government the mandate to make any deal or indirectly that will lead to such a result, whether it is 200 miles or what to do, not an inch, which will be lost," .
Said Muizzu
According to Muizz, the secret to the change in the policies of the Maldives (for everything) even if the Chagos islands are located in the south of the Maldives is in the north of the country (in India).
"The secret will be revealed when you look at the policy. No matter how much damage is done to Sri Lanka, the goal of some of the current policies is to please certain people. Head, neck and mind are locked," .
Said Muizz
An emergency motion has also been filed in the Parliament today, urging the Maldives not to abandon its policy with Mauritius in its case at the International Court of Arbitration for Maritime Affairs to make the Chagos islands a sovereign territory of Mauritius.
Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed also said that if the Government of Maldives agrees to the maldives' claim that Chagos in the south of the Maldives is the sovereignty of Mauritius, then the Government of Maldives will agree to release part of the Maldives' territorial waters.
