Former President Yameen

The criminal court has scheduled a decisional hearing for the ongoing Fuhgiri case, regarding the corruption involved in the lease of the island for resort development, against former President Abdulla Yameen, which is set to take place this upcoming Sunday.

Former President Yameen has been found guilty of non-compliance with previous rulings made by the Shariah and has subsequently been ordered by the criminal court to pay a sum of 52 million Rufiyaa to the state.

One of the members of former President Yameen's legal team, Mr. Abdulla Shiyaz, announced via a tweet that a hearing related to the alleged improper basis of the Supreme Court's previous conviction of the former president is scheduled to take place at 12:45 pm on Sunday.

Former President Yameen, along with Mr. Ahmed Riza from MA.Kurikeela Hiyaa, Sun Construction and Engineering, and Sun Investment, are facing charges of money laundering and bribery related to the Fuhgiri case. The trial for this case has commenced in the criminal court.

Although the criminal court had previously handed down an 11-year conviction to former President Yameen in relation to the bribery and money laundering charges linked to the rent of Vaavu Atoll Aarah, the High Court has since overturned this verdict. It should be noted, however, that a final decision on this case is yet to be reached.
