The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has predicted that the weather would be expected for the next four days across the Maldives.

According to the weather office, the western monsoon has strengthened in the Maldivian region. Strong winds and rough waves are expected, particularly in the north and centre of the nation. MET Office has also been issuing special weather advisories more often to make the public aware of the weather.

Thunderstorms and torrential rain are predicted for certain areas of the country over the next 24 hours. In the central and northern atolls, west and northwest winds will be between 15 and 25 mph, while southwest and west winds will be between 13 and 23 mph in the southern atolls. In the area, strong winds of up to 45 mph are predicted. The weather service predicted that the seas will be usually rough and that the waves will be between 4 and 7 feet high.

The western monsoon is predicted to worsen during the next four days, especially in the north and centre of the country, hence the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) also warned seafarers to take precautions. The MNDF further recommended boat owners, captains, crew members, as well as their relatives and friends, to make sure they are travelling in a secure vessel. Before setting off on a voyage, seafarers are recommended to check the weather, select a safe route, and contact the MNDF Coast Guard at the toll-free number 191 right away in case any issues are faced.
