The President’s Office has confirmed the removal of two senior Maldivian diplomats from their respective posts.

In a statement to the media, spokesperson Heena Waleed said that Mohamed Hussain Shareef(Mundhu), who served as Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, and Dr. Salma Rasheed, the Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, have both been relieved of their duties.

The announcement comes amid heightened public attention following the circulation of an alleged leaked audio recording linked to Asma Rasheed, a Member of Parliament representing the Maafannu Medhu constituency.

Mohamed Hussain Shareef(Mundhu) is her son, and Dr. Salma Rasheed is her sister.

Addressing related speculation, the President’s Office also clarified that Aminath Hussain Shareef, another relative of the MP who currently serves as a Minister of State, has not been removed from her position.

No further details have been provided regarding the reasons behind the dismissals.
