The Ministry of Islamic Affairs (Maldives) has announced that the Emirates Red Crescent has contributed USD 40,780.44 (MVR 626,795.36) in Zakat al-Fitr to support vulnerable children in the Maldives.

According to the ministry, the donation is intended to ensure that children living under state care, including those with special needs, are able to take part in the celebrations of Eid al-Fitr.

Officials said the funds will be used to provide essential support such as Eid clothing, food packages and Iftar meals for the children.

The ministry further confirmed that the Zakat funds have been transferred to the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services (Maldives), which will oversee the distribution of assistance to orphans and other underprivileged children currently under state guardianship.

In its statement, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs noted that the contribution reflects the strong and longstanding ties between the Maldives and the United Arab Emirates, highlighting the continued cooperation between the two nations in humanitarian initiatives.
