Opposition meets with Australian High Commissioner over Yameen's 11-year jail sentence

Senior leaders of the opposition coalition have met with the Australian High Commissioner to discuss the sentencing of the opposition party's presidential candidate and former president Yameen by a criminal court.

PNC Vice President Mohamed Saeed, President Yameen's legal team member Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, PPM Vice President Ahmed Shiyam and President Yameen's son Zayn Yameen were also present at the meeting.

According to the opposition, the discussion with the Australian High Commissioner covered the illegal and erratic actions of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government.

The opposition has also stated that talks have taken place about President Yameen being unjustly imprisoned to prevent him from running in the upcoming election.

While the opposition has begun seeking help from foreign countries to secure Yameen's release from the criminal court's sentence. Prior to this meeting, the coalition spoke with the Pakistan High Commissioner.
