President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has strongly condemned Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a civilian maritime mission carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza.

In a statement on his official X account, the President said,

Strongly condemn Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters, unarmed civilian vessels carrying vital humanitarian aid to Gaza. Such intimidation is unacceptable and must not be tolerated.

He wrote

He stressed that targeting unarmed humanitarian convoys carrying relief to a population deprived of freedom and basic necessities is a grave affront to humanity and international law.

The President further noted that

through its repeated disregard for human dignity, showing neither mercy nor compassion, Israel has further isolated itself from the rest of the world

Calling for accountability, President Muizzu urged the global community to act decisively

We call on the international community to take decisive actions against Israel’s gross and repeated violations of international law, which go far beyond the moral compass shared by humanity.

President added

He reaffirmed Maldives’ position, stating that the Maldives stands in unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people in their just struggle for human rights, justice, peace and security.

The Global Sumud Flotilla is the largest civilian maritime effort to challenge Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza during the ongoing genocide.

More than 500 activists from 44 countries are participating aboard over 50 vessels.

The Maldives-based International Aid Campaign (IAC) is among the contributors, with Maldivian activist Ibrahim Shaz providing updates from an observer vessel.
