President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Monday officiated a ceremony to mark the completion of the expanded emergency services at Hulhumalé Hospital, a significant step under the Government’s New Policy Initiative to strengthen the national healthcare system.

As part of the visit, President toured the newly enhanced Emergency Room, engaging with frontline medical staff and patients receiving care.

The facility now includes advanced medical infrastructure, such as a dedicated resuscitation room equipped to handle critical and life-threatening emergencies.

With this expansion, the Emergency Room’s bed capacity has doubled, now accommodating up to 14 patients simultaneously.

This upgrade is expected to significantly ease the burden on urgent care services in Hulhumalé and the greater Malé region, enabling quicker and more effective emergency responses.

The project reflects the Government’s broader commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and quality across the Maldives.
