Maldives welcomes over 700,000 tourists so far this year

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have surpassed 788,000 in the first four months of 2025, according to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism.

In April alone, the island nation welcomed 127,239 visitors, contributing to a total of 788,650 tourist arrivals so far this year. 

The data shows a consistent upward trend in arrivals, with over 200,000 tourists having visited in just the first two months of 2025.

China remains the top source market, with 85,469 tourists traveling to the Maldives from the country. 

In addition, the next largest tourist arrivals are;

* UK: 84,723 tourists

* Russia: 80,668 tourists

* Italy: 72,000 tourists

* Germany: 61,478 tourists

The largest number of tourists spent their holidays in resorts. That’s 69% of the tourists. 23% of people spent their holidays in guesthouses, 3% in hotels and 5% in safaris, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

The government has set an ambitious target of attracting 2.3 million tourists by the end of 2025, and the current figures suggest the country is on a steady path toward achieving that goal.
