The Government of Maldives has strongly denounced the recent storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by the Israeli Minister of National Security.

In a statement released on Friday, the Maldivian government described the act as a grave violation of international law and an assault on the rights of Palestinians and over two billion Muslims worldwide.

Such repeated attempts to alter Al-Aqsa’s religious and historical status that can be considered provocative are grave violations of international law and an attack on the rights of Palestinian people and over two billion Muslims around the world.

the statement emphasized

The Maldives called on the international community to take urgent and decisive action to prevent further aggression against religious sites and uphold respect for international law and human rights.

Reaffirming its steadfast support for the Palestinian cause, the Maldivian government stressed that a lasting peaceful resolution to the conflict hinges on the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine.

It reiterated that such a state must be based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The statement follows reports of Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir visiting the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Thursday, citing his prayers for Israeli soldiers, hostages, and the success of the Israeli government.

Such visits, often accompanied by Israeli security forces and settlers, have frequently obstructed Palestinian worshippers and escalated tensions in the region.

The Maldives remains firm in its condemnation of these actions and its call for global solidarity in addressing violations of international law.
