Vice President meets King Charles, extends invitation for Maldives visit

The Maldives has extended an invitation to King Charles, King of the United Kingdom and Head of the Commonwealth, to visit the country.

The invitation was conveyed by Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef on behalf of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during a dinner hosted by King Charles at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.

Vice President Latheef shared the news on X, describing the honor of meeting King Charles and extending an invitation to visit the Maldives.

The meeting underscores the Maldives’ commitment to its ties within the Commonwealth and its relationship with the United Kingdom.

President Dr. Muizzu had previously met King Charles on the sidelines of COP-28 in Dubai last year.

Vice President is currently in Samoa on an official visit to attend the CHOGM 2024.

He is accompanied by a high-level government delegation.
