Former Minister of Economic Development and Chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Fayyaz Ismail, has strongly criticized President Dr. Muizzu, accusing him of harming the Maldives' diplomatic relations with India and damaging the country’s international reputation.

In a recent tweet, Fayyaz highlighted that the current administration's continued cooperation with India is evidence of the importance of maintaining close ties with neighboring countries to protect shared interests.

He also accused the PPM-PNC coalition of fearmongering during the election campaign, pointing out that projects like the UTF, Addu infrastructure works, and the establishment of the Indian Consulate in Addu were unfairly depicted as threats to Maldivian sovereignty.

President Muizzu’s inflammatory rhetoric and needless alienation of our closest ally has come at a huge economic and political cost,

He further argued that the President's approach jeopardized the nation’s ability to secure financial support during a critical period and led to a loss of credibility in international financial markets.

According to Fayyaz, President Muizzu's lack of foresight has caused significant harm to the country's financial standing and its ability to raise necessary funds.

He emphasized that the "careless tactics" employed by the administration have negatively impacted ordinary citizens, with serious consequences for the Maldives’ international reputation.

Fayyaz Ismail called for accountability, urging that the leaders responsible for this damage should face consequences for the misleading claims made during their bid for power.

The leaders of this administration must be held accountable for the damage caused due to the blatant lies made in their bid for power.
