Maldives has bagged the 'Best Romantic Destination' award in the International category at the Travel + Leisure India's Best Awards 2022.

The award was announced at the 11th edition of the Reader's Choice Travel + Leisure India Best Awards 2022 held at ITC Maurya, New Delhi, on November 16. The Maldivian High Commissioner-Designate to India Ibrahim Shaheeb received the award on behalf of the Maldives during a special gala. 

Travel + Leisure's Best Awards recognises some of the most popular companies in the tourism industry.

The winners will be selected through an online voting platform over a period of 60 days. The awards were announced at a special gala that will bring together the travel community.

India is one of the most important markets for the country's tourism sector.

As of May 9, 1,95,015 tourists visited from the Indian market, accounting for 14 per cent market share. In 2020 too, India became the largest tourist market in the Maldives.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the prestigious award is the result of MMPRC's various marketing activities to promote the Maldives in India.
