The Bar Council, which oversees the bar test, stated that it will enable newcomers to the sector in learning about legal issues, assessing their capacity to comprehend them, and determining their level of competence to offer legal services. The bar test is the "minimum benchmark," in accordance with the Bar Association, required to grant authorization to practice law in the nation.
The exam was conducted with the help of USAID, ABA, Caplan and NCBE with 120 questions in a multiple-choice format. The paper was designed in English and local languages and the syllabus for the exam has been prepared by the Committee of Experts of the Bar Examination. The subjects included in this year's bar examination are Constitutional and Administrative Law, Tort Law, Land Law and Practice, Contract Law and Practice, Criminal Law and Procedure, and Maldives Legal System.
The Bar Council has put extra effort into helping those who plan to take the bar test prepare. This year, a total of 18 lectures were held to help applicants get ready for the test.
One of the two requirements under the Legal Profession Act is passing the bar test in order to practice law in the nation. The completion of a licensing training program is the second prerequisite imposed by the legal profession.
