Commissioner of Police Mohammed Hameed has stated that the Maldives Police Service (MPS) will start using taser guns later this year.

CP Hameed has stated that the taser gun regulations have been created and have officially been published on the gazette. During a press conference, He contends that the police need to be well-equipped and ready to deal with crime considering the risks associated with it as well as the security issues.

The Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed first proposed the use of tasers in police operations in 2020. A trial to use the gun was started at that time.

The police are set to use taser guns during dangerous police operations. Police are prepared to use 25 taser guns with 20 police officers being trained in two batches.
