The Trauma and Emergency Department of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has trained more than 50 healthcare professionals from the Male’ City Group of Hospitals (MCGH) as part of a specialised disaster management programme aimed at strengthening emergency preparedness and response capabilities.
The training programme that was held today, introduced participants to a newly implemented triage system designed to support the management of Mass Casualty Incidents (MCI), where large numbers of patients require medical attention during emergencies and disasters.
As part of the programme, healthcare professionals took part in practical exercises using advanced Virtual Reality (VR) simulations.
The technology provided participants with an immersive and realistic environment in which they could practise assessing and managing disaster scenarios.
The use of VR simulations enabled trainees to gain hands-on experience while navigating complex emergency situations, helping them develop the skills and decision-making capabilities required to respond effectively during mass casualty events.
IGMH expressed its appreciation to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the British High Commission for supporting the programme and providing the VR equipment used during the training sessions.
The hospital’s Trauma and Emergency Department continues to work with relevant stakeholders to facilitate specialised training programmes, with the aim of ensuring healthcare professionals are adequately prepared to respond efficiently and effectively to emergencies and disasters.
