Marine Police have safely rescued all passengers from a ferry that ran aground on the Emboodhoo Reef while travelling from Malé to K. Maafushi.

According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 11:24 a.m. on Tuesday when the ferry experienced an engine failure, causing the vessel to lose course and strike the reef.

Authorities confirmed that 72 people were on board at the time of the incident.

Those rescued included 67 tourists, three Maldivians, and two expatriates. Police said all passengers were evacuated without injury and are reported to be in good health.

Efforts are currently underway to refloat the grounded vessel, with relevant authorities continuing to monitor the situation.
