Maldivian super-app Eeezap has launched a new “phygital” bookstore aimed at helping local authors market and sell their books while making it easier for readers to purchase works by Maldivian writers.
The service provides authors with a platform to reach Eeezap’s existing customer base, offering support beyond book delivery by helping them promote and sell their publications.
Eeezap integrates multiple services, including food delivery, grocery shopping, cycle taxis and retail.
The company said it has been gradually expanding its shopping services as part of its transition into a broader e-commerce platform.
Speaking at the launch event, Eeezap’s CEO Abdullah Miuvan said the company aims to develop the platform gradually, acknowledging that the service may require further improvements in its early stages.
This service may not be perfect at its inception. However, our hope is to recognise the invaluable work of authors and assist them in generating a sustainable income
A local author attending the event highlighted the difficulties faced by writers in the Maldives, noting that many publish their books independently and often struggle to manage deliveries to customers.
The author welcomed the services offered through the Dhivehi Foiy and Eeezap apps, saying they would provide valuable assistance to local writers.
As a book lover, I extend my sincere gratitude
At the same event, Mohamed Jailam of Javaabu Academy introduced DhivehiVaahaka.com, a new digital platform designed to help writers monetise their work and give readers access to digital literary content.
The platform allows readers to access e-books and audiobooks, as well as experience visualised audio dramas.
Eeezap can be downloaded through its website at https://eeezap.com/customer.
