Speaking at a special convocation at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad on 21 October, the President emphasised the Maldives’ commitment to respect, dignity and justice for all nations.

President Muizzu stressed that these principles extend beyond national interests to the rights and opportunities of people everywhere.

We believe that every nation deserves respect. We believe that every people deserves dignity. And we believe every generation deserves the opportunity to inherit a more peaceful and just world

he asserted.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and the university’s Rector, Professor Dr Ahmed Saad Al Ahmed, presented the honorary degree during the ceremony.

In his acceptance speech, President Muizzu described the award as an honour for the Maldivian people and a reflection of the friendship between the Maldives and Pakistan.

It matters because, although it has been given to me, it is the people of the Maldives who have earned it. And it is the friendship of your great nation that has conferred it

President Dr. Muizzu expressed.

The President also highlighted the responsibility of leadership at a time of technological advancement alongside continuing conflict, injustice and human suffering.

He praised the university’s ideal that faith and knowledge should advance together and that intellectual achievement should serve humanity.

So, I receive this honour with gratitude, and also with a renewed sense of responsibility

he added.

President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed are undertaking a state visit to Pakistan from 20 to 22 October at Prime Minister Sharif’s invitation. The visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
