President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said a police station and permanent police presence will be established within the Rasmalé area allocated for the Maldives Waterfront and Marina project, rejecting allegations that the development would operate outside state authority.
Speaking during the eighth episode of "The Pulse" podcast, the President said the Eagle Hills development would remain subject to Maldivian law and the country’s Constitution.
There will be a station of the Maldives Police Service in that area
he said, adding that police officers would be stationed there permanently.
President Muizzu dismissed suggestions that the project area would fall outside Maldivian jurisdiction, describing such claims as attempts to mislead the public.
He stressed that the state would exercise its sovereignty over Rasmalé and enforce the country’s laws throughout the development.
The President also rejected claims that the project would allow the practice or promotion of religions other than Islam.
He characterised allegations that Rasmalé would accommodate a large foreign population with freedom to practise other religions as politically motivated efforts to create division.
The Constitution of the Maldives will apply here. The Constitution is very clear,
he added.
The Maldives Waterfront and Marina is a proposed mixed-use development in Rasmalé by Abu Dhabi-based developer Eagle Hills.
The government and the company signed a commercial terms agreement on 21 September 2026, setting out the project’s principal commercial framework, with detailed terms to be developed as it progresses.
Plans include hotels, residences, a marina, waterfront promenades, retail and dining facilities, alongside education, healthcare and community infrastructure.
