On behalf of the Maldivian government, the official agreement to receive the streetlights was signed by the Minister of Construction and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib.
The Ambassador of China to the Maldives, Kong Xianhua, signed on behalf of China.
These streetlights were donated under the "China Solar Lights Maldives" project, which is being carried out to transition the Maldives toward renewable energy.
Speaking at the ceremony held for this occasion, Ambassador Kong stated that the decision to donate the streetlights to the Maldives was made during a meeting held last year between President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the President of China.
He also expressed hope that the streetlights received under this project would bring a positive impact to the lives of the Maldivian people.
The solar streetlights previously donated by China have been installed in three islands.
The Ambassador noted that with these new lights, streetlights will be installed on additional islands, giving further progress to the government's efforts to transition the Maldives to renewable energy.
