President Dr Muizzu receives new Dutch Ambassador

The newly appointed Non-Resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Maldives, Wiebe Jakob de Boer, formally presented his Letter of Credence to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during a ceremony held at the President’s Office.

As part of the official proceedings, the ambassador was escorted to the venue in a traditional Haiykolhu cultural procession accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force Drum and Trumpet Band.

Following the presentation of credentials, President Dr Muizzu officially welcomed Ambassador de Boer and extended his best wishes for a successful tenure in strengthening relations between the two countries.

The President and the ambassador later held discussions on a range of issues of mutual interest, including infrastructure development, climate resilience, investment opportunities, and cooperation in the field of human rights.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral engagement and enhancing collaboration in areas that contribute to sustainable development and shared prosperity.

The President also highlighted the importance of continued international partnerships and support for national development initiatives.

The discussions reflected the longstanding ties between the Maldives and the Netherlands, with both countries expressing interest in further strengthening cooperation across key sectors.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the Netherlands were established on 3 September 1979.
