MDP appoints former presidents Nasheed, Solih as advisors following council meeting
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has appointed former Presidents Mohamed Nasheed and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as advisors to the party, in a move aimed at strengthening internal guidance following recent electoral developments.
The decision was made during a National Council meeting held on Saturday night, where members convened to deliberate on internal party matters in the aftermath of the Local Council Election results.
As part of the outcome, the council agreed to establish an advisory committee tasked with providing counsel to the party’s chairperson on key issues.
The committee will operate alongside the National Council and remain in place until a new chairperson is elected.
In addition to Nasheed and Solih, the advisory body comprises Party President Abdulla Shahid, former Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail, Acting Chairperson Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, and Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Nazil.
The National Council also resolved to amend the party’s charter to grant membership in the council to individuals who have served as President under the MDP, provided they remain members of the party.
Following this amendment, both Nasheed and Solih have been formally appointed to the National Council.
The proposed changes to the party’s charter will be submitted for approval at the next MDP Congress.
