Maldives Customs has seized a package containing over 1.070 kilogram of drugs that was smuggled into the country through the postal service.

According to Customs, the package was intercepted during an inspection carried out yesterday.

Upon suspicion that it might contain illegal substances, the package was thoroughly searched, leading to the discovery of the suspected drugs.

Preliminary analysis confirmed the substance tested positive for cannabis, with the total weight of the narcotics measuring 1.070 kilograms.

The estimated street value of the seized drugs stands at MVR 856,000.

A 52-year-old man who arrived at Customs to collect the package was taken into custody and handed over to the Maldives Police Service for further investigation.
